Three things Taylor wants you to work on

Use these before your call. They are the same principles your programme would be built on.

Tip 1

Prioritise unilateral strength

We pirouette on one leg, so let's train that way in the gym. Unilateral exercises can reveal side-to-side differences and improve strength, stability and control through the supporting leg.

Try

  • Rear-foot-elevated split squats
  • Single-leg Romanian deadlifts
  • Step-downs

A stronger supporting leg creates a more stable base for your turns.

Tip 2

Strengthen the oblique sling

Your oblique sling is a cross-body muscular system connecting one shoulder with the opposite hip. Training this system helps maintain rib-to-pelvis control and resist unwanted movement through the torso as you rotate.

Try

  • Bear crawls
  • Bird-dog rows
  • Pallof presses

A stronger oblique sling helps you stay connected and controlled throughout your pirouettes.

Tip 3

Train weight transfer

A successful pirouette begins before the rotation, so let's lock in on the prep. You need to transfer your centre of mass onto the supporting leg and establish control before initiating the turn.

Try

  • Offset-loaded step-ups
  • Deficit reverse lunges to knee drive
  • Skater hops

Better weight transfer creates cleaner, more consistent pirouettes.
